Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.     bought a 16v was mechanical injection now have got a haltec computer from a friend and ive figured out how to do the injection set up but what sought of air flow meter can you use. any other problems to look out for. experienced ppl reply only please

    You won't need an air flow meter but you will need a throttle potentiometer and a MAP sensor. The throttle on the 16 valve only has an on- off switch (I think) so you may need to make an adaptor for a potentiometer. The engine can then be mapped with fuelling and ignition values as a function of engine speed and throttle position with correction for either atmospheric pressure or manifold pressure (which is better for idle control).

    The ECU will need some form of trigger, it is best to mount this on the crankshaft front pulley, and possibly a sensor on the cam. The hall effect sensor in the original distributor may be suitable for this.

    You can use the standard inlet manifold but the injector mounting is different so some modification will be required. Otherwise you can use a multi throttle set up which will be less restrictive. Be careful if you are using second hand injectors, they can corrode if they are left exposed to atmosphere, humidity etc

    If this is going into a carburettor car make sure that you have a good fuel supply and some form of anti-surge for the fuel. The original K-jet pump will work fine if you have it, EFI will run at about 3 bar fuel pressure compared to the K-jet which runs at about 5.5 - 6.
