Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

So have purchased a set of borbet a reps to put on my gti. They are 15 x 8 et 15 and have a set of 195 x 45 tyres on the way after issues with rubbing on the first set. Didn't really want to stretch but seems the only war to fit. Need some spigot rings as centre bores are different. Are they legal? Are they specialist machined and where can they be done near Newcastle? Or can they be purchased from a specialist store? Have I bitten of more than I can chew running 8 inch wide?

Spigot rings can be picked up from many places including wheel shops and eBay. Totally legal and you'd find used with most aftermarket wheels. Probably need to get some conical seat bolts if you currently have the stock ball seat. 15x8 et15 has been done. Would recommend a guard roll. There's heaps of stuff about wheel fitment in the mk2 section on vortex if you wanna do some research.

I'm assuming these are the same wheels if you want to see them on a mk1 with different tyres...

any tyre store should sell them.

Where are the wheels rubbing ? on the springs or the guard edge?

if on the guard, like Anthony said a guard roll is probably the best solution. Looks tuff too

Yeah we're rubbing on the guards but they were the wrong tyres 225 50s the 3 rd wrong set that the store sent to the shop so the owner thought he might as well give it a go. Looked terrible like a 4wd. The 195 45 will be here next week. What are conical seat bolts? I would say ill definitely get the guards rolled

The 195 should be a lot better!

Google conical seat and ball seat to see some diagrams and get an understanding of the difference. Essentially it's the shape of how the bolt sit in the lug holes.
