Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Roof racks for Mk2 Golf

    Hi All,

I've been searching for some removable (as in, not bolted down) roof racks for my Golf and haven't been able to find any.

According to their respective websites, both Rola and Thule dont produce racks to fit however I've seen plenty of photos of Mk2 Golfs/Jettas with what appear to be removable Thule racks (Nacnuds Mk2 Jetta being one such example). Perhaps they're a discontinued product line?

Anyone know where to source these or alternative racks from?

    Cheers,
    Goudgey

      Cheers for that Duncan,

Thule no longer make them so It'll be a slow trawl through forums and auction sites for me.

Any other manufacturers produced racks for MK2's?

      Cheers,
      Goudgey

So apparently the Prorack Whispbars with specific mounting feet will fit the Mk2.

Question is, will these racks suit the eighties look of the Mk2 or should I hold out for some second hand Thule 305's?
