  • MK2 Restoration

    Hi all,
I've been a VW convert, from my uni days. Used to have a sweet little '79 MK1 Golf (affectionately referred to as "the BOG" due to the people mouthing 'bloody old Golf' when I was overtaking them).

Anyway, I have my hands on a beautiful little MK2 GTI. I'd like to return it to its original look. To show my ignorance though, I'm not sure if it's a '90 or '91 model...

So, here's my question - does anyone have a picture of a clean, original MK2 GTI? I've been through the pic thread, and found that oak green original - is that original enough?

Did the steel wheels even come to Australia?

Thanks to anyone/everyone who can provide assistance.

    Welcome to the forum!!

Are you after original pics of a 5 Door Aus spec GTI's or just clean original looking Mk2 GTI's in general?

Theres a lot of modified Mk2's in this thread but might give you some inspiration

They are mostly 2 Doors, but meh!

    Original 16v brochure too.

hey, welcome. its probably a 1990 build but was first registered in aus in 1991 (which is what my australian delivered mk2 is, im assuming yours isnt a personal import). have a look in the engine bay, theres a little tag in there, i think its on the drivers side panel.

heres mine when i first bought it. original, except the fog lights arnt in.

      what colour is yours?

First of all, thank you for the pic - it's not easy to find a Golf in original guise (or at least, the wheels).

She's red, although the paint work needs some attention.

anarchycamp, thank you for the links - much appreciated! Cheers
