Thats why you don't put 17's on a mk1 as well as they look silly (too big)
15s are really the biggest for a mk1.
If you are up to date with whats on overseas no one has 17s on a mk1.That style went out years ago (1990s)
i know that....... it was origanally my fathers car... he upgraded to a riceie (skyline) and now i bought this from him..... thats y i want to get info on the porsche wheels, in the aussieveedubbers forum im actually looking for mahle gasburners and i want to polish them up nicely. or the 944 turbo wheels on dubstarmk2's mk2
by the way it only guard rubs under heavy bumps or a ful fat carload

Porsche wheels look great.
My favourites for a mk1 are 928 s wheels and although they are 16's you can fit 195 /40 16s on .
anything like a 205 size is really too big.
Fitting of the Porsche wheels is not a straight bolt on as you will have to import some adapters from Europe so take that into consideration first before you rush into any purchase.
My son and I are building a 1.8t Mk1 Golf to burn off the Skylines at our local racetrack.
Dads gone for the comfort, power steering and grunt no doubt.
Anyway all the best with your car.
