Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Confusion!!

    How often are we who love these old cars in Australia faced with the choice I have to make today!? We all love our cars and want what's best for them and the purpose we use them for and finding spares in Aus is like finding hens teeth. I've started horsing parts for my MK2 rebuild over the last few months and by circumstances not altogether happy find myself in South Africa, family business taken care off and some exploring done has led me to not 1 but three engines to choose from for my rebuild. These are a 9A a PL and an ABF the prices locally are very good but an still waiting on shipping costs before I decide whether or not to import one to Perth. My question for the forum is this which of these three beauties would be the best option for my daily driver? The ABF costs around $1400 the 9A around $1100 and the PL around $1000, all are low mileage engines with good compression and oil pressure.
    Confused because we never get this kind of choice in Perth.

    So in short, you've traveled to MK2 paradise and are spoiled for choice with multiple 16v 2.0L's to choose from.
    MK2 - *Insert list of dealer purchased extra's/standard features here*
    80 series - The MK2's BIG, Sooty, polar opposite...
    HAHAHA

      Yes this is true 😊 and if funds were no issue I might buy all three and bring them back with me.

        But also waiting for a price on shipping because that may make things a bit more tight on the purse strings.

          depends if your car is EFI or K-Jet.
          EFI= get ABF
          K-Jet = get 9a

          Steer clear of the PL as its a low out put KR.
