Simple as really! I'm referring to a bog standard MK2 GTI, anywhere in the history of their production life really.... As I recall they weren't actually exported to Australia, so I guess that puts a premium on them

Not really correct, VW Australia had officially imported Mk2 GTI but many people just don't like them because they are detuned, they don't attract good money. Price range from $2500 to $5000 depend on conditions, there are various personal imported Mk2 (SA or UK) which are much better although market price are not much different from aussie released.Originally posted by veedubnutz View PostAs I recall they weren't actually exported to Australia, so I guess that puts a premium on themsigpicParts for sale http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...ff-102387.html

Thats really not too bad price wise. I did once see one for sale for...... $10,000 and it really wasn't even remotely special. You see stock 16v's in average condition for over £3k now - my friend bought a valver for £600 a couple of years ago, now worth about £2500.
Ok, so next question is... how on earth do I go about finding one? I need to go about finding myself a daily first, but I've not owned a stock MK2 for years so could be fun! What are the price of parts like compared to the UK? I guess second hand availability is pretty minimal.

This forum is probably the best place to start your search for a MK2, then carpoint, carsales, craigslist ect.
There are a few dedicated parts suppliers *points at Camden GTI* scattered around Aus, but I do most of my shopping online (ebay UK, GAP ect).
IIRC there are around 5 for sale on this forum currently?MK2 - *Insert list of dealer purchased extra's/standard features here*

Lol. Mine was a 1984 A reg I picked up for 475GBP. WASN'T IN BAD NICK BUT GOT TRASHED WHEN IT WAS EXPORTED (oops caps) so slowly trying to repair and semi restore it. So far I haven't found an early Gti in The UK and only one other A reg hat was a non Gti 2 door in beige or something.
