    There could be other things at play, failing ECU and or ignition module are possible. The other I would look at are all the connections in the intake between the air meter and the throttle. Your car won't run with out this being connected up. I had the same issue once and the intake boot had fallen off at the throttle.

    Remember it's a digifant 2 GTI here.

    I might add replacing the main earth from the battery to starter and chassis and positive lead to starter might assist with the slow winding.
