    Only just noticed this (I often forget to check the Mk2 forum). Sounds very much like the throttle position sensor (TPS). Fairly common failure with ABFs and will throw a fault code in most cases (P0121 IIRC) - do you have the OBD plug wired up? Hope so.

    Another part that will cause this problem is ECU relay #30, which can also create intermittent misfiring around 2500-3500 rpm, as well as stalling when coasting to a stop. It's actually worth replacing this regardless, as it's only $33 from VW and will probably fail soon anyway!

    Doesn't sound much like a dodgy ISV - they'll tend to create stalling at cold starts or very high base idle when hot if not working correctly. Worth cleaning for good practice, though
