  • Fuse 20 blowing immediately

Ok a few weeks ago my number 20 fuse blew, leaving me without instrument lights or number plate lights. And when I replace the fuse it blows straight away, any thoughts?

Wiring fault. Could be a short circuit somewhere.

Not completely sure but is it just the number plate lights???

I'd disconnect the plugs on your back lights and then see if it blows.

After that i'd be looking at the wires where they enter the tailgate by the hinges, that would be a favourite place for wires to chaff through.

Even just try swapping the fuse with the tailgate open see what happens.

Mate 1 thing to try and you might find it a bit weird , but i had a golf driver in my shop and someone had been in at the instrument cluster mucking around. Take out your headlamp switch and check the screw behind it that secures the dash surround. This screw into metal mate. If this is backed off slightly it shorts on the switch. Also if it is ok remember if the fuse blows right away its problem lies before the fuse box and not after. ( after being a consumer covered by the fuse) If it blows when the consumer is on it is then the consumer or there abouts, but to save you time if it blows the minute you put it in it lies BEFORE the fuse box
Good luck, and let me know how you go. Meantime ill check the diagram!!
