Brake upgrade for Golf MK2

I have A 1988 Golf MK2 and the brakes are working fine. I heard from a friend of mine that I can upgrade the brakes. I am thinking of upgrading it to a double piston ventilated disc brakes. Anyone who knows where can I get them from? I mean from which VW car? I heard from a Corrado? If so, wha model and year? Also would there be alot of modifications?

Did you have 300hp+ power upgrade ? otherwise Mk2 brake is quite good, why do you want to change it.

Sounds like you want Girling 60's. They allow you to run a 280mm disc and are twin caliper. however they're kinda weighty.

Some old audi's had them as factory. (100, 200's from the 80's)

You should be able to run a cupra or corrado disc. 280mm, narrow track, 4 stud, but you'll also need mk 3 2L style (narrow track) hubs. Our mk 2 gti's have a one piece carrier/hub (and 239mm disc). To run decent brake upgrades, you need the mk 3 2l stuff (256mm, an upgrade in itself). then you can run mk 3 style brake upgrades. 288mm require different carriers, the carriers that come standard on the Girling 60 brakes should fit straight onto mk 3 narrow track setup. (actually, they'll probably fit straight on a widetrack set up, using a widetrack , VR6 -280mm, disc.

I'm saving the pennies to do what Jarred suggested, use the 256mm disc/hub set up off a MK3 GL (2.0).

Actually it was offered to me to replace the entire assemble of my MK2 to an assemble of an MK3. How about for the rear? Any suggestions for parts that I can use for the rear if I also want it to have disc brakes?

Yup! me too... Would you know if it will cost much for me to ship parts from there to my area? Im from Philippines and I am not pretty sure about the shipping rates from Australia.

Unfortunately they didnt sell golf's here in the philippines. All Golf's here are imports... my MK2 has stock brakes (solid rotors up front, drums at the back) Im actually thinking of buying big bumpers there and have it shipped here in the philippines... would you know if someones selling? I would want to compute how much would it cost me just in case.

Ahh, I see, you must have a standard (CL?) MK2.
I wouldn't be able to say who's selling bumpers atm, I don't know.

my MK2 came from JAPAN the badge at the back says CLI i think its next to the GTI (from what I have researched). there are some importers of VW parts here in the Philippines but theyre really pricey compared to ordering it online. as much as possible I am trying to buy brand new parts for my MK2. I just hope Ill be able to find parts with cheap shipping cost. Ill post pics of my MK2 as soon I get them.

That's what I've done to my mk2. Mk3 GL front setup, so now I have slotted discs all round with Redstuff pads.

Haven't worn them in yet, but looking forward to seeing how it pulls up.

Do any of you have recommendations on what brand discs to go with? GAP only has the stock and zimmerman kit. I have had a look at ECS tuning and their looks the best by far but are out of stock on the sliooted and drilled. There seems to be a pile of different brand discs on ebay.uk but dont know what to trust.

Theres a vento at the local self serve wrecker, are the front brakes the same as mk3 GL? also what is required to change the booster to fix the pedal feel after upgrading to 256mm?

i plan to visit the wrecker tomorrow morning so any help is much appreciated.
