I see you have conveniently removed the price for the wheel I'm interested in

My car is a 1988 model, so borderline small/large spline, so will need to check first before I decide what to do. Will do this on the weekend (I hope) and will go from there.

How big is the Mk1 4 button wheel?
    - Mk2 Golf GTI 16v, 2-door, Tornado Rot, BBS RS, 1988 - SOLD
    - E30 325i Coupe, Manual, Alpinweiss
    - E30 325i Touring, Manual, Diamantschwarz x 2
    - On the lookout for another E30 325i Coupe, Manual (red would be nice)...

I think it is 360mm, I can double check.
Ya, 1988 is the cut over year. Do you know the build month, what wheel have you got now ? it can tell if it is big or small spline.

I've got the third one from the top in your 'Steering Wheel Galore' page (the Aussie Mk2) - according to what you wrote there, it should be large spline?

Yep, yours is big spline. You need to remove the spline adaptor in order to fit small spline steering wheel.

Hands down best, suits the car to a tee, but you need a 16v engine to go with it. There is also a larger rim diameter version for cars without PAS I have the small one in my car

OK, I'm still not confident my steering wheel is large spline. Took some pictures hoping you guys could verify once and for all (did some extensive web browsing but couldn't find anything showing what the small spline looks like v large)

And this is the steering wheel my car came with:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

              Cheers,
              Dom

I've got the same wheel in mine. Mines a small spline.

Haha, that's exactly what I mean, I'm finding contradicting answers everywhere. RedMk2GTI - the spline is actually closer to 17mm (I should have taken a better picture with the tape measure). How big in diameter is the large spline? Also, if I was to get an adaptor, do you just slide it on top of the small spline?

                    Thanks for your help guys.

Just food for thought before you change to a smaller wheel.
When I had my mk2 I found that with my most comfortable seating position I wasn't able to see the speedo at about 80km/h because of the wheel. A smaller wheel would have made this even worse. Does anyone else have this issue or was it just my seating position? I'm hardly tall at 5'10".

                        Yours looks like small

I'm confused then, unless VW made different version of the same steering wheel.

Rob, you probably have weird seating habit LOL, I never have that problem, I'm quite short though 5'7"

Exact thing happens to me, steering wheel hides the speedo haha
But even worse in my case because the km/h numbers on my cluster are tiny....

Thanks Red! It definitely looks like mine is small spline then. Are you sure your SA wheel is small spline (because all of the advertised online I managed to find are large spline)?

Rob - I've got my seat adjusted to its lowest position and I only want to go a little bit (~30mm in diameter) smaller on the wheel, so not seeing the full speedo shouldn't be an issue. Actually, that's another reason why I don't want to go with an aftermarket wheel (i.e. momo steering wheels are often only about 300mm in diameter).
