  • Help, how can you remove a vw golf seat?

I feel a little dumb, but how the hell do you remove the drivers seat from a mk2 golf, i cant find any bolts like all the other vehicles i have had. (none were euro). Made new bushes for the gearbox linkages out of teflon/nylon and fixed the gear shifts but cant get the bloody chair out????????

Thanks, any help appreciated, will be ordering a manual tomorrow.

Under the front, remove the 10mm nut on the 6mm allen bolt. Then take the covers off the runners in the rear footwells. Lastly, pull the handle to slide the seat all the way back and off the runners.

    Job done.

I'm interested in how you made the bushes for the gear shift! My ones are stuffed to the point I cannot get the car into 5th without dislocating my wrist!!
I'd order a set from GAP but cant handle waiting 2 weeks or more.

You may be able to just adjust the linkage if the bush isnt too flogged, i couldnt get reverse. Only made the main 3 bushes as the gear lever linkage one was so buggered I couldn’t get reverse, removed bracket with main bush (has 3 bushes in it) basically just drilled out the rivets holding the bush in place and used a lathe to machine up the bush from some Nylon/Teflon I had. Machined up the other 2 smaller ones so that they were a press fit (by hand) and put them in place once the shaft was in the car, otherwise u cant get the shaft in because the new bushes aren’t flexible like the originals. (was gonna order the units you talked about but needed sooner than 2/3 weeks and i reckon this works better anyway) Shifts beautiful now and I dought will flog out or have that vague feel like the soft originals. Put it all back together lubed with some spray grease (will lube at service times) and all good.
