Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 87 jetta fuel system

Hello i have just picked up a 87 Jetta when i got the car it had the fuel tank and pump removed. I am unsure about how to re-install it. I have marked a picture with arrows i think the red arrow is for the line from the fuel and but the two thing on the side marked with black arrow i am unsure on what these are for.

    87 jetta Fuel

Have you gone under the car to see if you can match it up? It looks like your missing your fuel filter and i believe those are brether vent for fuel tank.

I have seen a couple of MK1 Jettas in Oz,and quite a few Jetta 3 ex SA models, but never a MK2 ,although I beleive there are a handful of them in Oz,although I would still like to see one...

yes i do have the filter just wasn't in there at the time and yes i have tried to match it up it has two lines from the tank into the fuel pump and then two coming from the engine bay. I am also new to vw's so i can not guarantee that it is a mk2 but it is a 87 model 4 door sedan i will upload a picture of it when i can so you guys can verify it. the car looks the same as the jetta on the first fast and furious movie

Was it a South African import ???

The MK2 Jetta put VW China on the map,and was a huge worldwide success for VW,expecially in the US.

I am sure it is a South African built one,has changed the Jetta headlights for Golf GTI lights, and the big bumpers from later models.

Also non Jetta alloys.Looks like a great car though. How much mileage has it done ?

Those 2 pipes are the supply and return. Have a look under the bonnet at the fuel distributor and you'll be able to work out which way it is. I can never remember, much safer to look.

See if you can get a Haynes manual, there'll be good pictures in it.
