Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    URGENT HELP NEEDED!!!

My Coolant bottle keeps blowing and my top hose isn't pressurised. I still get the little dribble from the rad overflow hose. I've bled it properly, heat from the vents and water in all the pipes. Level rises and falls when the individual pipes are squeezed.

Is this a blockage or is my water pump up the duff? Or my rad for that matter?

Sorted that out, now I have a rattle somewhere when under load in gear. Doesn't happen when in N. Reset the timing and it goes better, but the rattle is slightly annoying. Only happens in the upper rev range -4k+.

      Anyone?

They are shagged but I can't get the front on in Oz.. It's an earlier type with the bolts going left to right, not vertical.

I think there is a bearing on the way out- I sound like I've got a supercharger on there with the bearing whine I get! Kinda cool, but I don't want it to blow up next time I'm on the Harbour Bridge or something!

                      Ok,

I am able to replicate the rattle. It's the same rattle when you stall the engine ie turning off the engine while in gear travelling slowly.

The bearing noise is getting more pronounced. Could the Intermediate shaft bearing be on the way out? How hard are these to replace?

No but they sound like a supercharger bearing.
