  • what engine do i have, at a loss :/

    hey guys, i have a 1987 2 door mk2... possibly gti, every one says something different so i dunno :/ its a 1.8 8v afaik with a 5 speed box, iv looked in all the normal spots but cant find an engine code, my rego papers say W031329P but i cant find a reference to this anywhere either, where should i be looking on the engine for the code? im trying to order a turbo manifold but need to make sure its gonna fit my application, would also be good to know if its hydraulic/mech etc aswell
    thanks all,
    tom

    The VIN number should help. It's VIN plate is on the inner wing on the drivers side, chassis number is stamped on the bulkhead, possibly under the rubber seal that sits between bulkhead and bonnet.
    This might help decode it & give your engine code/type;
    Volkswagen VIN Decoder / VW VIN Decoder

    Failing that take a photo of the engine & post it here someone should be able to identify it.

        It should be at the front of the engine block, near the ignition distributor.

        W031329P doesn't look like usual VW engine number.

        VIN won't help.

            Take a close up pic of your engine block and post here, some other expert should be able to tell.
            I suspect you don't have a VW engine LOL

                Interesting. Were VW's built under Audi in SA?

                  Where the water flange is on the head, it should be just to the left of that.

                          maybe the w0 on the paper work might be the casting code for the head and some blueslipper thought that was the engine code lol. just take a pic of the motor, then take a pic of the block under the water outlet and post them up.
