Trip computer pretty much gives it away - you might bother to swap gti go-fast bits onto a non-gti car, but why on earth would you bother with the MFA..... GTI for sure.

She doesn't look to bad mate, MK2's always have a quality in them that screams "potential".
Replace a few trimming's, paint the rear bumper, give the rest of the car some love and hey you've got a pretty 2 door Golf

EDIT: Whats the go with no idicator on the RHS?

missing on both sides actually :/ pain job is rooted, bonnet is peeling clear like theres no tomorrow, rust bubbling up around the place which needs to be taken car of, the whole thing has just been half assed really which is a shame, fair bit of work in store but thats why i bought it should be worthy of a parking bay at worthersee or ed38 when im done with it! that said, i love the thing now, it runs like crap, fouls plugs and has a flat spot in the rev range but its so fun to drive, puts a smile on my face everytime haha!

Funny how these little old cars do that.

Do you have one of these manuals?
Very helpful in diagnosing problems and it cover's K-jet (and Digi) injection.

nah, got about 3 different ones for my mk1 though... on a side note, is digifant and k-jet different systems? i may have jumped the gun if so, the ecu in the raintray says digifant..... :/

edit- k, so im guessing i got digifant not jetronic, whats the pro's and con's of each?

K-jet is a mechanical form of fuel injection (with basic electronic assistance) whilst Digi is a full Electronic form of fuel injection.

I've only experienced Digi (in my car) and can tell you it can be a bit tempremental when certain electronic parts/sensors fail.

Go for a search on google (Kjet vs digi), there heaps of info around.

Jayjay posted this in another thread....

digifant has a AFM sensor and looks like this

If it's digi, then you have the right doors and trim.

It's got potential but it looks like you've got a bit of work ahead of you, hope you've got deep pockets. Good luck

Agreed, but your missing the GTI wheel arches, door and sill trims and the front bumper isn't GTI As the fog light panels are blanked out. Your door trim looks like it's from a basic golf and your seats are in non GTI fabric, maybe they are retrimmed ?

Your comments regarding the rooted paint, dents and rust bubbles covers 95% of mk2's still on the road, they all look good in photos but when you see 'em in the flesh they look a little different.......

Agree with the comments about deep pockets, these old cars are money pits...but then again nobody runs and restores old cars thinking they are going to make money out of it. Bottom line is that you have a 2 door, looks like a pretty solid starting point, start cruising eBay, GAP and make sure you have Loons phone number.....

The seats aren't stock MK2 seats (look at the handle) and the door cards have been trimmed to match, someone has put some money into this car at some point.
And the bumpers don't look OEM they are probably pattern or repo bumpers. Arch trims & side mouldings aren't easy to come by as i recently found out. It migh be cheaper to convert it to small bumpers & run no trims.

I bought 4 new mk2 big bumper GTI wheel arches from vw around august of last year. They had to ship from Germany and I was told 2 of them were the last ones in stock (globally). $390 landed with GST....

The seats look like mk2 GTI seats, mine have the same handle and the shape looks right but agreed the fabric isn't
