Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • My mk2 golf 1.8t

    This is my golf, started as a project around 8 months ago or so. It was originally a 1.3cl, my first car on the road some years ago. I've been gathering parts for a while now and still in need of loads more

    Started out like this;

    Stripped!!

    Bay painted;

    Getting the APY lump ready;

    Engine in;

    Underneath all sealed and exhaust on. Powdercoated rear beam in too.

    Some of the wiring heartache!!

    Engine plumbed and running;

    o.e diagnostic socket;

    Rm's split and polished;

    Finished article;

    I'm delighted with it, has plenty of poke and puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it

    Bit of a spec;

    Engine
    APY out of a 00 S3 with 100k
    Forge turbo intake pipe
    Forge 100 series intercooler(pipework has to be tidied)
    o.e ecu with diagnostics working
    qpeng downpipe mated to unknown axle back
    02a CDA gearbox with quaife atb
    Vr6 fuel tank, pump and lines

    S2 calipers up front with new g60 discs
    mkiv rear calipers with new discs
    fully polybushed
    apex coilovers up front and koni shock/spring on the rear

    BBS rm's 15x8's all round.

    Ibiza cupra interior
    momo team 280mm
    vdo boost gauge

    There's still more things I want to get, new suspension, uprated arb's, remap etc butI'm happy for now.

    Here's a little teaser;
    new wheel bearings all around

              Just how difficult is it to get the S3 1.8T engine over here in Australia? Or did you ship it in from overseas? Do you have a costing of all your work that you could PM me?

              I am interested in doing a mk2 engine change over, but I am still getting all the information.

                  there is loads of info on the net how to do this change, PVW even did a 'how to' guide to it back in the day

                  CLUBGTI.com/forum will be a good place to start searching

                    That's not much at all, there's loads of them going here at the minute. Endless amounts of them in England!!

                    My car is in Ireland as I'm still here, will be storing it in January and heading to Brisbane.

                    engine and ancillaries cost around €1200,
                    gearbox with quaife lsd €1000,
                    Brakes came to around €400
                    Exhaust €450
                    Then all the service parts, belt kit etc was around €500

                    Anyone needing help from January on I'll be glad to, I'll bring my wiring info with me.

                    Go for it, I'd love AWD as FWD can be scary with big power!!

                    There is a thread in the 1.8t section of clubgti by 20vjimmy, it's good for anyone using the mb7.5 ecu.

                      I sold my bbs too to get to Brisbane, here's my golf now rocking g60's;

                      It's not driving at the minute though due to one cracked downpipe

                        Noice!
                        Jeez that downpipe really copped it!! Front engine mount too saggy?
                        I'm one of the few mk2 20vt guys in Aus at the moment. Check out my thread in the restorations & projects section! I bought the supposed G60 front mount from GSF but its still way too soft and my engine rocks and jumps around in there pretty bad! Got a Vibra-Technics one on the way before my qpeng downpipe ends up like yours!!
                        Did you put a flexor in the exhaust?

                        I'm having mapping/fuelling issues with mine too. Are the VR6 lines bigger than the mk2 ones?

                        Cheers,
                        Wade

                        PS; those G60 steelies look hardass!!

                          Yeah it's really bad but Qpeng are sending me out a new one. Ben is a gent of the highest degree I have to say and will gladly deal with them again!

                          I've looked over your thread a few times before I registered, fair play to you for sticking at it but it's worth it in the end! I had a second habd VT one but am now going fore a solid mount, I'd say I'll love it. I don't mind the vibrations if it helps the feel of the car!!

                          There is a flexi in the second part of the downpipe which is perfect.

                          Vr6 lines are slightly bigger iirc, I got the tank pump and lines for like $80 and worked 100%. Never had any fuelling issues and car started first time!

                          Thanks, I'm thinking of getting them banded to 8's once I get the funds.

                            Yea ben and jon have been helpful with me too.

                            I just checked ETKA and golf 2, golf 3 GL/CL/VR6 all have the same fuel lines FYI.

                            Cheers

                              Maybe it was ther carb fuel lines I was thinking of, I'm not sure.
