  • MK2 Golf Rear Windows desperately need door/window rubber profile - leaking!

    Hi guys,
hope I havent missed this addressed somewhere else.
I've got a mk2 1990 Golf GTI which is good nick apart from some sections of rubber.
I've been trying to track down a replacement to the section of rubber that sits against the rear passengers window (outside of car), pressing against it creating a seal so water can't get through to the door lining. For some reason - shrinking or it fell out - I'm missing about an inch on both sides. Front seals are fine.
Attached pics - with shots of the profile and gaffa covering the hole.
Any tips as to where I can go to replace this would be greatly appreciated.
Tried Clark rubber, and a bunch of guys on the NSW South Coast, and a couple of dead ends in Melbourne.
    Thanks!

If you find anywhere that has them let me know, I don't think I've ever seen a Mk2 without shrunken seals

Have the exact same issue with both the rear window rubbers on my car.
It just drains out the bottom of the door on the outside.

All Aussie ones are shrunken. Either find some in a cold country, like the UK, or buy them from VW here if you can find someone in the dealership who cares about your Mk2.

Matt's right, I got a set the last time I was home in Ireland. Cost me 40 euro and slipped them back in my luggage. Jump on a UK or Irish forum and I'm sure you'll get sorted out.

          I got mine through VAGdrivers

            seals

Dang it, sounds trickier that I thought. Thanks for the link, I'll try VAGdrivers.
Apparently there's a guy out in Bungendore NSW you apparently has 400 VW's in a big ol wrecking yard, might see if he can help. Otherwise I might have to just beef up the plastic inner or fabricate an insert to keep the rain out.

            Edit
The guy out in Bungendore is Nick from Volksparts Canberra.
            He's on 02 6238 1686 and 0412 345 121.
You can pick up from him and he also ships. He mostly wrecks MK1 golfs and air cooled dubs but some MK2 parts.

I was in China last week, I travel often on business through China. I actually took a very close look at the jetta your talking about (they have several "jettas" on the road, with varying names) as I also need rubbers, the model in question was produced up until 4 or 5 years ago and it clearly has Mk2 doors

The seals however are thicker and have been changed a touch to give a more modern look; I will chat to a mate in China and see what i can do to source a couple, I was thinking if I could find the actual seal and buy a bulk amount its probably the best way to go

let me see what I can find out

I bought a set thru my mate Matt at the dealership in Wangara in Perth. Can't remeber if they were ex Syd or Germany, but they were all still available except for the passenger front.
Cant remember how much they were, maybe around $50 each. They come with a little extra length and you just trim them to fit, so allow an extra few mm for shrinkage!

I called VW and the rubbers are no longer available so the only very slim chance is should a dealer have any sitting on the shelf .....

I bought front rubbers on eBay from the uk and cut them down to fit the rear. They were better than what I had but still ordinary. I guess if you can get a half decent set it will work as long as you can get a seller to agree to post them O/S
