Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Mk2 Golf GTI On Carsales

G'day all, was just wondering if anybody knows this car, history, etc. I'm quite tempted but can't afford to ship 2 cars to Western Australia from Victoria so with much disappointment, have to pass. Maybe one of you guys would be keen.

I saw that car the other day. It's in a sportscar rental place in Richmond. Looks ok apart from the wheels and tail lights.

Good price for a car with a roadworthy, from the pics it looks like its in very good condition....but then again they always look better in pictures

Still, for a car with a roadworthy I think its value for money; tail lights and wheels are an easy fix

The Jim Beam mats are a worry though.......

IMO, it's overpriced for a Aussie spec Mk2

              Overpriced, yeah
              Flogged, quite possibly too...
But it is a bullet proof MK2 with what looks be a decent paint job with lowish K's.
I'm certain it could be bought for around $5000, if he lowers the price (if not, he doesn't want to sell it)
              Certainly a car worth saving

Call me biased, but I think it's a fair price.

If it really is in good nick, that is. It look me months of looking and way too many lemons to find my Mk2. So a well-cared for example, with solid internals and bodywork can have this sort of value. IMHO of course.

It looks pretty good i reckon. You dont see a lot like that, and if its been driven hard it should go nicely coz these engines like it hehe.

pictures are deceving, i owned this car for about a week, and then sold it as i did not have the time or space for it(project car). Kevin on this forum brought it from me for about the same price i picked it up for, he did some stuff to it, cleaned it up and made it look nice, 1yr rego ,rwc, but he also sold it recently to this guy thats advertising it on carsales, i brought the car for 1600$ and sold it for like the same price, i hope the guy that is asking 6500$ for it may or may not have fixed up a few issues the car had. But IMO way to overpriced, the car had pretty good history, but over the years wear and tear may have started to catch up with the age, it was owned by a lady for 17years.

i know when i sold it, it had a stalling issue, you drive and all of a sudden it would stall, i would fill it up with oil and in a day it would all be gone, heater core was broken and had been bypassed, outter condition is fairly clean, there was clear peeling off here and there, mainly the tail gate. gear linkages almost non exsistant. thats about all i can remember, only drove it like 3times before i sold it, i was ordered by the folks that having to golfs is a sin lol also the steering column was from a mk3 so you couldnt select like oil temp and that stuff you can scroll through on the dash

Well, sounds like the car could have more than a few issues then. If it's the case, the price is a little excessive. Great to know more about the car Koztek!

No worries, well the problems may or may not have been fixed, but id rather people be safe than sorry buying from a caryard, as i already knew some of the cars history,
as i already found out the hard way with the SS Commodore that i had brought from a caryard and ended up being F*****.

                              So buyers beware
