Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Replaced the heater core. Dash is in, only 2 plugs to go...

I had to replace the heater core b/c one of the pipes has snapped off when I bought it.

I managed to remove the dash and heaterbox. Not as scary as I had envisaged.

I repaired the foam doors in the heater box and put a new heater core in.

    From this...

    To this...

Now the dash is back in, everything works except the blinkers and the MFA switch. I think the blinkers are shorted so a fuse should do it.

Only thing to go it I have 2 orphaned plugs.

This one is part of the wires which go over to the left speaker.

The other one is part of the grey covered set of wires running underneath. It's not for a dash light as they are all accounted for.

    Anyone know where they go?

    Cheers

    Ok

    It's all back in.

Got a heater hose off Brian but he told me you can get the feed hose locally. Found some old heater hose in the garage and it fit nicely.

Other than the temp control cable clip not holding properly it all works. The heater is brilliant, gives out heat super early unlike my MK5.

Only think not working is the MFA switch. I checked it with an older stalk and it won't switch it either. It must be a wire loose or the cluster has an issue. Hope not!
