Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Gt28Rs is now on and running

    Hey guys,

Thought I would update you with the progress of the 28rs onto my mk2 1.8T 20v.

After Chirs, Matt and I stayed up to 4 am this morning fixing it all up we got her running. The turds at ATPturbo jipped me and only put a 7PSI spring in the EG even though I asked for 15 psi. No Worries though we had a spare TurboXS bleeder. ...

All I can say is ....weapon, third gear wheel spins ahaha maybe fourth I don't know yet the testing ended when the BOV popped off the hose and by then we were so tired we decided to lock her up!

I will get pics and vids this weekend.

I want to say a big thanks to my best mate and occassional lover Yee man, he welded and helped with everything as always without him it wouldn't have really happened.

A thanks to Matt for coming to play all the time especially until 4 am when he works at 6am.

Also thanks to Adrian for being a gentleman a scholar, as always. (let us borrow the tig) and finally Tim for Pirtek Hornsby for sorting the **** heads out at Proflow.

when does it hit boost? what spec turbo is it? (a/r?)

I'm guessing you've got it at 15 psi atm?

              AGU motor or?

I think you should have gone for a GT30/40 as they can have external gate setup and often spool up just as well as a smaller turbo but with no real limit on the top end potential unless you plan going past 25psi on a 2L turbo.

I am sure it will happen now that the bigger turbo bug has bitten. When I changed from GT25 to GT30/40 I gained bottom end because the 4 inch smooth intake and smooth exhaust housing with no internal gate were that much more efficient

Well its on about 15psi and it silly fast,

                      the engine specs are

                      AGU with qpeng tune.
                      Stock internals etc etc
                      630cc deka's
intercooler etc etc all other specs will saved for the show.

The 28RS the car is running has a rear housing with no internal gate (running a 38mm tial). The exhaust path is very smooth.

There is simply no need for a larger turbocharger, as it is (with a rich tune) 3rd/4th gear wheel spin is an issue.

Yep, I can personally vouch for this car, it is a true animal.

I drove it on the weekend and it is a scary little machine- if you so much as look at it the wrong way it WILL bite your nuts off!
