  • Mk2 GTI with WRX 2.5 Turbo Engine - London Chop Shop

    Hello everyone,

I was watching London Chop Shop on Discovery Turbo last night... They build cars for celebs, generally based on odd briefs.

This week Johnny Vegas (comedian), who drives a Mk5 R32 wanted a sleeper vehicle.

Being a fan of Golfs they have picked up a straight 2 door Mk2 GTI and have gone about puting the WRX engine in it, chassis and 4 wheel drive running and all!

it is a 2 parter so have not seen it finished, however the road test showed 0-60MPH in about 5 seconds and 100MPH easily, estgimated 300BHP

The body designer Leepu has not got his hands on it yet - no doubt he will wreck the look... - tit

Prob lots of bits on Youtube...

wouldn't let him near my Mk2 GTI!

    Cheers

    Mez

    chop shop

If he wanted a sleeper he shouldn't taken it to the chip chop who just chop up something nice , use 44 gallon drum of bog on some alfoil to hold the shape , give a lick of paint and there you go. I do watch but not a fan of their work..

The body guys do good work regarding metal fab, but man they make some ****e! The BMW E36 they turned into a turd, still with a 1.8l engine.. Waste of space!!!

Some funky ideas, but man they could do with some engineering and design prowess!

that leepu wants to be the worlds best designer, as if.

Some of his work make the sang yong cars look good.

and as for the mk2 gti, he absolutely butchered it, hope he sleeps at night wrecking cars with his "unique, waving arms" design method.

What a heap of crap. They absolutely RUINED that mk2. Could not have made it any worse.

Why not just put in the engine and 4mo, then make it clean and shiny on the outside.

If I were that Vegas dude, I'd be asking for my money back so quick.

Never heard of this show or these people but I am shocked and appalled at that thing. I read all the above comments before watching the clip and i wasn't prepared for that, thing!!

The arches are way too big, it sits way too high and its got Skyline GT-S32 rear lights on it for fork's sake!! Apart from the swage line there is none of a MK2 left. And the front, its just a big square hole with some lights blue tacked on. Don't even want to start on how it would drive.......

What i don't understand if if Mr Vegas wanted a 4wd turbo-charged MK2 why didn't he just buy a Rallye and get at a 1.8T put in it. What did he ask for in the first place?

If i was there at that reveal i would be laughing my arse off.

I wish there was an Aussie 'habib's chops' shop made locally.

How many stolen/rebirthed WRX STIs can fit into a Lebanon-bound shipping container?!?

The chopped cars then get made into crazy Hezbollah humvees in the mountains around Beirut.

[I've only ever seen this when in Europe; never locally. Does Foxtel even carry it?]

                          that looks awful!!
sure many people might like the idea more powerful engine in any small car, but to changed its looks and make it hideous as that....... what were they thinking!!
