think it's silver, may be done as a hillclimb car. With a half cage maybe, so nothing gets butchered.

Was the MK2 Syncro ever officially imported to Australia? There's a few of them in the UK running 20v turbo engines I'd love one with that setup!

there may have been some privately imported but i highly doubt it.

The only Mk 2s imported here were the GTIs imported in 1990 in two shipments.

Ok! Is it incredibly expensive to ship parts out from the UK (like engines / gearboxes)? And does anyone know if you're allowed to bring parts of a car's body in to the country?

I have done a couple of shipments of engines and gearboxes from the UK. It is expensive, but significantly cheaper than buying stuff here. If you need something, I can help with shipping.

Thanks! It won't be for a while yet but that would be good. I'm just trying to find the right car for the right price to import at the moment.

Looks like i've found a car to bring over. One of my friends has a 3 door 1988 GTI 8v Campaign model (I think in a greenish grey colour) which needs a bit of easy work doing to it, but is free!! I just have to work out the technicalities (and costs) of getting it here now.

He's going to e-mail me a few pics of it so i'll post those up when I get them. I'm starting to get excitied at the prospect of MK2 GTI ownership again!
Hoping to drive it as is for a while, then look at an engine swap for something with a bit more go.

At least the price is right to begin with
Good luck & look forward to hearing how you go with it
