  • My 1984 MK2 GTi

Thought it would be time to put up a thread on my GTi.

As most of you know, I imported this when I got back from the UK, thus denying the UK of one of the earliest MK2 GTi's (First reg was 7/84).

It started life in someones hands as a decent car, then proceeded to get more and more chavved up till it got sold to me in December last yr.

    This was how she looked:

From there she underwent a transformation. From Chav mobile to something that would be proud to wear the GTi Badge!

First up, some 16" Racing Dynamics wheels

    Then a Rainbow interior:

Then came a 280mm Brake upgrade: (Not 256.. my bad!)

Time went by until I found someone selling a de textured big bumper kit-F?R Bumpers, arches, side skirts and rear spoiler for 500 GBP-Could have got doors with poppers for another 200 quid, but they weren't really my style.

Then I lost the stripe around the grill and got a black badge:

    Tried some 15"BMW E30 rims:

Final mod was to get the centre console cut out for a stereo and some VDO gauges along with a Corrado interior:

Only problem I have now is, i sit Waaaay too low in the car.. great for track days, but crap for town driving! BUT the seats are 1000% more comfortable than the crappy rainbow seats. If I could find a company that does a folding base for an aftermarket bucket seat, I'd go that route.

Now it sits on my driveway, looking a bit worse for wear after the dust storm, and haven't touched it until I can get an assessor out to quote for the damages.

    Stay tuned, more to come!!!

Very nice car mate. Looks good with the smooth bumpers.

      It's even older than mine!! I've got an 84 GT, but it's a B-reg.

Good luck with it and living in Oz!

        Cheers,

I havent seen an earlier GTI, even in the UK. I've got all the paperwork etc to back up the mileage (90+K) old mot's etc. Very genuine car.

No idea.. Never followed the market in Oz. UK, where they're dime a dozen, 2000GBP or there abouts.

Here, try finding a 2 door MK2, 1.8l Kjet (full tune, not like the aus detuned version) pretty much full service history, rego and mot to back up the mileage (93k genuine)

Anything over about 7k I'm guessing? I know that sounds a bit pessimistic but I guess thats where the over bit comes in...

                              What he said!!!
Ideally, after I get the damage sorted and certified, I'd be looking for around the 11k mark.

                              Plans for now:
Return the body work back to original condition, possibly lose the flares but not sure if gtis Ever came out flareless,
Return the wheels or get it eu ning on Bmw cross spokes,
                              Retrim/replace the dash,
                              Replace the speedo cable,
                              Possibly charge the engine somehow,
Retrim the interior or get some other seats,
Get some decent suspension under it. I've got towing leveller rubbers in at the mo. Sits far too low for my liking!
And finally, do a few shows with it and see what happens from there.
