The cutting out thing could be the in tank pump Rednut.

Mk2s have a lifter pump in the tank and a main pump. Sounds like the lifter is cutting out or dying. maybe. Hard to tell without seeing it.

lol. the list is growing.. came out of a driveway today and now the (i think) muffler/exhaust has loosend or somem..
the whole car rattles and clunks a little when i stop accelerating/put clutch in.. and as a result.. it sounds like the engine moving around.. not coo.. luckily i'll be drunk(birthday is on sunday) for most of easter so i wont be driving anywhere.

the fuel problem is not an issue at the moment.. just keeping it above 1/4 a tank is easy enough to do to eliminate it for now..

        rego next month.. hehehe

ok ok.. so it wasnt the muffler or the exhaust.. i opened the bonnet today and nearly fainted.. the engine is resting on the frame of the car.. i cant see any mounts where it should be attached.. jeebus, i could have been rolling along and hit/runover my own engine..
          newy crew to the rescue!
the engine is visible from under the car.. you can see it when you look at the front of it.. LAME!

just took some photos.. perhaps now i'll get a reply

FROM THE FRONT (shouldnt be visible!)

FROM ABOVE (shouldnt be able to see the radiator from this angle either.. the engine has pulled it down..)

IVE FOUND A BIG RIP IN THE METAL/FRAMING (bit right of centre)

P.S - she still runs somehow?! (but i dont plan to use her)

SOME CONCERNING RUST ON THE BOOT(the middle photo is the worst as below the bottom left of the taillight is more frame rust than just surface rust..)

Looks like the front engine mount bracket has ripped. It does happen, ask Sean. That would be a mad clunking noise.

The rust at the back looks mostly surface, but lots worse than a year ago. Has she been sitting in the weather? Under a tree?

Have yo got the front bumper off the car?? It looks like its not there in the one pic?

the crow flies... im about 60metres from the ocean.. but theres a big wall between it.

the bumper is on.. just that little black plastic bit that runs along the bottom.. it was scraping alot and was falling off.

so this rip.. is it gonna need welding or just another bracket mounted underneath?

                    Ha! Familiar sight!

Make sure that the front motor mount is the right one...

They could probably have been designed a lot better...but that will definitely be the cause of mad vibration and clunking noises...mine did that when i broke the 8v front mount, since replaced with the right 16v front mount!

get the wire brush into that dust before it becomes really bad! Rust spreads quick, so you haveto be quicker!!

so i should be able to scratch most of it off? sweet.
the rust below the left taillight is my biggest concern as it looks like its frame rust and not surface rust like the rest..

mollins, do you have a pully type thing to lift the engine? out of beer yet?

                          holy F**K.

we have an engine crane etc.... but im heaps busy, away all weekend..... perhaps moday arvo. at hte moment, i can think of one real solution, which would involve me bringing my stick welder over and jack, temporarily welding that bracket back together so we can take it to where the tools are.

dead set, im totally with loon now. this car is cursed.

mollins is out yonder west so he'll probly not even know about htis, haha.

i'll try to let you know what happens this weekend. if i happen to be free on friday morning, might be able to do a patch up then.

                          cheers

Shall I just send you blokes up an engine mount bracket?

She is cursed, maybe you should tip it in the harbour.

                            Is it insured?
