The Jetta would run ok if you could resolve the coldstart issue.
I now know what the problem is, as we have just fixed the same problem on my 16v project.
The fusebox in the Jetta is the original Carby one and it needs a link adding to the fuel pump relay and a relay exchanging for another one. then it will pulse power to the injector and should run nicely. Then you could do away with the toggle switch.
Beau fixed my one and could do the same for you, as he is the guru. Bit far away from you though, unless you come to our meetup on the 11th March

yeh, not too keen on her travelling to sydney yet..
wheres the meet?
drove her properly today in the wet.. i gotta drive like a granny around corners.. otherwise i feel her slip in the back..(its also too easy to get wheel spin in first and second with a bit of water on the road)
its taking less and less time to get her going tho, which is great news. Theres no more coughing when firing her up either... it was deisel city for the first few days.. black smoke everywhere..(no offence!)
ive noticed it gets to its own idle stage quicker if i sit for like.. 10seconds at about 2k revs and then put it in reverse and try to get out the driveway.. after 2 stalls from seeing if it'll idle on its own.. the third time it'll do it..
obviously more time playing will have me knowing exactly "what buttons to press"
still on for tomoz ayden? if no reply here when i get home from work, i'll just buzz ya

Fuse box is the same for carby, incted or diesel.
Make sure that you use the correct fuel pump relay! Fire hazardn:
went for a spin yesty.. the speedo isnt moving! the only good thing is im not clocking any k's.. i suspect it'll be a wiring issue as the high beams come on sometimes when i turn the wipers on..(the beams aer on the left with teh blinkers..)
might get the wiring underneath the steering wheel re-done if it doesnt cost a mint.. theres melted wires and all kinds of stuff under there! had to fiddle with it last week cause the headlights werent working
ps, i realised tonight (in the rain) that i should plug up those holes up that would usually go in/out of the dash from the engine bay.. feet were getting a lil wet.. lol
you can look on your gearbox there is a cable running seemingly into the top of it on the right hand side of the engine bay (looking into the bay from outside) its retained by a philips head screw which you may remove and carefully withdraw the cable /end assembly. if thats still all there (you'll know if its not) then it might have come off at the speedo end bahind your dash. not sure about how hard it is to get to up there in your car.

It`ll have come off behind the clocks, I reckon you have reefed the cable from inside the bonnet when you were tinkering with something.

i choose not to believe the curse! consider me a witchdoctor!
ayden, came over twice to visit today but i guess you were at oonie.. ah well.
might be goin a pair of those tires for the rear reeeeally soon.. i loose traction so easily in the wet.. even taking off(not like a "loon")..
matt, how do i get behind the dash without taking the whole thing off? (possible?)
not sure what to plug the holes up with either(where the tooobs went in and out to/from the heater)
