Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

It looks like a normal bolt but my ratchet didn't fit in there.

Do you need a special tool or a trick to do it?

Last time I payed a guy to do it but it looks super easy.

You will just need a large socket like velly said, with an extension bar on it so you can get it in and turn.

Ben a 6" extension should do the trick. Make sure you either have a handy helper or just put on the steering lock. Also leave the bolt on by a few threads when tugging off the wheel to stop it hitting you when it lets go...

            Cheers for the tips.

My biggest socket is a 19mm. It looked bigger than that...

              Steering wheel nut 24mm deepwell

I have used a 24mm deepwell socket with as the other's have indicated a 6 inch extension. A standard socket may also fit. I just checked a spare wheel I have in my workshop, and the 24mm fits nice.

              Have fun

                The 24mm worked a treat.

Forgot to mark the steering wheel postion with a texta so I had to adjust it 3 times before it would drive straight, haha!

Thanks everyone. It's so nice to be able to indicate to the right again
