The closest dealership is in wollongong for me, Southern Classic Cars if im going to drive that far I will take it to Wayne Penrose Volkswagen. We are good family friends with them so we get good deals plus there is always the off chance for a ride in his drag car

Not all genuine parts are that good . I would rather the after market KB water pump for a 1.8t than the genuine one any day of the week ! As long as you use OEM parts you will be fine , if there is no OEM equivalent then your best to use genuine .
As for dealers servicing mk2's , there will be hardly any dealers left with mechanics that have had mk2 experience , mainly due to the low numbers imported here . Your probably best to take it to Mullers or someone like Golf Loon who has done a fair bit of work on them . If worse comes to worse you could even bring it to my shop although I prefer working on mk3 onwards .
Just on sidenote the Aus Mk2's had 1 recall that I know of with the heater core , just get the vin checked to see if its been done

The heater core was not replaced, but they supplied a plastic sheild to stop your legs getting burnt when the core leaked. A thermostatic bypass valve was put in the heater hoses also.
