Moving to Sydney

Hi,

I'm from NZ and will move to Sydney this coming April.
I wish to bring along my 1986 mk2 GTI SA spec.

What should I do? Do I need to be in Oz first before I import it?

There's aheap of info on importing cars to be found on this forum. Do a search and ye shall find! Basically, as long as you've owned it for 12 months it's piece of cake. Just bring it!

i have read several of them, but the stress seems to be on "personal import". What i have in mind is "car that are manufactured before 1989" scheme.

according to the website that i read, any car can be imported without restriction if it is before 1989.

Is it true?

Yours is not a personal import.
12 months ownership and use qualifies you.

yes, if its a pre 89 model i think you can just bring it in.... but the 1 year rule still applies doesnt it?

I think you only need to own it for 12 months if it is post 1989. 1988 or older can be imported without restriction.
