  • Tyres for a GTI

    Hey

Just looking for user experience/opinion for good rubber for my GTI.

I currently have the Aus stock rims (195/65/14 - is that the correct width?).

It's only gonna be a weekend car so I don't need high end rubber but if the price is right I will consider.

Also I have heard with steelies you can de-weld the centre and weld it into a wider rim? If so what size is good as to not have stretched tyres and rub. Something like 7s?

Or is it worth getting 15inch steelies? I wanna be able to keep the centre wheel nut cover. I doubt it will fit on 15s though...

    Cheers

155/55/14 on 14x7.. perfect amount of stretch.

neales wheels will do it, so will oz wheels. any where between 120 and 160 per wheel for widening. get some bridgestone potenza re001s on there if you're not planning on going wider. they're cheap and grippy.

if you don't need high end but want a quality tyre. yokohama c drives are my pick. http://www.yokohama.com.au/ourtyres/tyre.aspx?tyreid=66

can't remember how much i paid for them...somewhere around the $140 i think?!?

you can actually drop the profile slightly...get them in 195/60/14 for your stock rims. thats what i did...

there's st george tyres in ...? st george? they'll do tyres pretty cheap. alternatively, look in your local junk mail for beaurepairs/jax tyres etc for sales. i picked up a set of potenzas (re001 195/50/15) for just under $400 from jax during a sale.

Well it turns out Tempe, Taleb and St George Tyres are all owned by the same three brothers.
