  • Good news and Bad news.

    The bad first.

My brother was driving my MK2 GTI and the exhaust kinda made a bang and then more loud noise.

We had a look and the pipe between the muffler and the silencer? had broken.

So off the the exhaust shop and it turns out the rubbers holding the exhaust up were all from a commodore or something so the silencer was being held up by the pipe!

The starts fixing it and about an hour later he calls me back. Says the rattle you have been hearing is the remnants of the ceramic from the cat sitting in the muffler!

Now we get a new stainless high flow cat put in and a hole for the O2 sensor (has been out since the MK3 manifold/downpipe upgrade) and the pipe fixed up.

The car is now really smooth, the hint of back pressure is now gone and the exhaust note has been amplified

    Now the good news.

After some convincing and letting him use it as a daily my bro decided to "invest" into the car so now I don't have to sell it, it's staying in the family. Great success!

So I am gonna start a "benoughs GTI thread" and you will get to see how we will evolve the car over time.

Thinking; tyres (currently bald-ish) then brakes (machine the discs, get good pads) and then suspension.

Who do people use to insure theirs? I am thinking shannons and like a weekend use only policy?

    Cheers

go Shannons i was paying $400 insured for $5000.00 on the MK1 but that was as a recreational car ie 3 days a week/ 10000kms a year.

i'd recommend that as i know you and Tim wont be driving it a lot

Eventually went with NRMA Vintage Insurance. Got 9000km a year, anyone over 25 can drive it all for $210!! Brilliant.

Yes but only market value, yep and doubt it.

I will pass on a free windscreen if the premium is $400 cheaper.

Yeah thats just an extra, the NRMA have a bad track record with letting you choose repairer and agreed values. I also value speaking to a person which you dont get with NRMA.

My quotes were the same, but then I have multi vehicle discount with Shannons and the extras have it.

Hope it works out for you.
