I also fitted PAS much nicer to drive around town, but at least most options you can retro fit, unlike a factory sunroof.

      what about the left?
no tattoos on that one lol

        Hi guys,
I bought my red '89 16v out of South Aust. a few years back. Maybe its the one you were talking about. Mine dose have red/grey checked trim though. But rough all round but detailed it hard and it looks good now. Like Carl I had elect. windows, locks and manual sunroof. I put in power steer and AC from a wrecked mk2.
I have the parts for power windows too. i'll fit them up one day.

It'll get a full engine rebuild and a respray this year to make it like new.

Stiggy, NB: I was also searching one night for a 16v as i had wanted one badly for ages, since 1987 actually, and i was searching around the net one night trying anything i could to find one at about 11:30pm. I thought i'll never find one as i now had the money but not the car and it was allways the other way round. I thought oh well ill look again later in the week but before i turned off carsales i hit refresh and my car poped up. i nearly fell of my chair!! Was on a plane 2 days later with a mission.
Keep looking you'll get one eventually.

        Simon
PS. if anybody knows were that helios 16v is let me know as i want it. Had a 1983 urquattro and a 1988 GTI cab in that colour. Looks great.

          Hi people,

First post, don't shoot me down in flames!

With a bit of luck I'm coming over next year and working for the RAAF, and will be on the hunt for a decent Mk2, whether it be an 8 or 16v I couldn't care less, as with me it's all about the asthetics. Where are the best places to look?

Also what I want to know is what are the most sought after spares for the Mk2 in Oz, as I plan to deplete the VWUK stockpile of mk2 parts, as I'll be given a 40ft ISO to fill courtesy of the RAAF?

Also plan to bring more of these with me in different guises.

Fingers crossed if I get the job we can rival the Germans with the BBS porn content!!

          Regards

          Lewy

welcome to the forum lewy, good luck with the move and job prospects.

AFAIK BBS RM's are really uncommon out here, and RS's are everyday either!

As for finding a mk 2, look either in our forsale section, and www.ebay.com.au. Also www.carsales.com.au have some everynow and then too.

Lewy, see if you can get someone to chop the rear quarters, including windows from a 2 door Mk2 and get the front doors from the same car.
                I`d then make a 5 door into 2 door

                  Mk2 GTI 16v

                  Hi All,
I accidently stumbled on this newsgroup. I do have a Mk2 16V GTI ... sort of. I have a late mk1 golf (rabbit) that was transplanted the 1989 16V Mk2 GTI engine + gearbox and other running gear. It looks just like this

,but with 4 headlights. I bought it from a GOLF fanatic and he had imported all the bits from Germany at great expense. It has sport springs and Koni adjustable shocks with anti-roll bars at the front and back. IT has fitted sport exhaust and from what I was told tuned to 160hp (140 in original state). I’ve had it for almost 7 years and it is still in great mechanical condition. The body is not in perfect condition but still looks ok. I’m beginning to think of selling it, but I’m finding it hard to explain to people the value of such a car. A bought it for 9G back in 2002 and am finding it hard to settle on a price. My question is what would you say the value of such a car maybe and if anyone is interested in buying it I’d be willing to talk.

I would appreciate any comments and advice

Are you in Adelaide. Peder was saying the other day he built one like this. I've seen that one parked on Grange rd same spec as yours.

                        Hi all,

Thanks for the welcome. I am from Adelaide and do park a few times a week on Grange road, so it may actually be the same car. I’ll post a few pictures so people get a better idea of what the car looks like. I do apologize for posting on the Mk2 forum as technically speaking it is a Mk1. I would love to hear about any worth wile engine or body mods and also places to find good bits and pieces as I may decide to keep it for a few more years.

                        Cheers

Adelaide's a small place, like the rabbit badge. Update your profile/location as it makes it easier when selling stuff etc

                              Good news!!

                              i found a 2dr mk2 16v GTi,
just wondering what sort of things should i look out for before buying it.
besides the basic check over mechanically, bodywork etc. is there anything else to take into consideration?
