  • Mk2 Golf GTi 16v in Aus?

    Hi Guys,
I'm new to the watercooled forum!

I'm in Melbourne and have been looking for a Mk2 16v Golf GTi, but haven't been able to find one.
I was wondering if there were any 16v Mk2's brought out to Australia?

    Can anyone help me?

Theres about a dozen brought in as private import. They do come up for sale more frequently now they are getting on a bit. Expect to pay $6-$10K depending on condition.

Buy a five door official import for $3K and drop a VR6 into it

      Thanks for the help!

might have to get the 8v GTi, unless i come across one.
But it's better having one than none!

There was a red one for sale there a couple of years ago. I managed to get a look at some detailed pics of it
If its the same one there is a considerable amount of rust around the strut tower on the D/S & a very basic GTI options wise.

There wasn't a lot of options on 16Vs to be fair. They got the beesting, central locking, electric windows, tints, sunroof, alloys as std. Which is pretty much most of the options that you see regularly. Aircon and headlight washers were rare as in the UK.

My GTI G60 which is the top MK2 outside the Limited had keep fit windows.

I don't want your right arm velly

I also fitted PAS much nicer to drive around town, but at least most options you can retro fit, unlike a factory sunroof.

I remember the one I saw before had light beige/cream cloth interior, which really didn't do a car like that justice & no P/S or A/C, not thats always an issue
I think the owner at that time was a professor at Adelaide uni

Have you managed to have a look at this one Gavin?

Not seen it Ian, Robin sees more of this stuff than me. He drives through town more than I do.

I had headlight washers on my MK1 GTI, along with a 5.5 litre washer bottle. I had a switch to isolate them, as they'd dump the whole contents of the bottle in about a minute. Nothing worse than running out of washer fluid.

They are a really useful extra when big bulbs in your lights, cause road spray to weld itself to the lens in winter.
