Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • mk2 16v parts - where to source in UK?

    hey all,

jmac is helping me fix up my mk2...and has come up with the following list that needs to be done.

my question - anyone know of a place or places that will have the majority of these parts under one roof in the UK? saves me having to run around and try to source these individually - the mrs wont be too happy with this considering we are on a holiday!

p.s. got off the plane at 5.30am saturday, walked to the car park and kid you not, it resembled a dub meet within a 25m radius...out of 40 cars, at least 40% were dubs. mk2/3 gtis, vr6s, passats...and that was at 6am. i will start collating photos along the way.

anyway...parts as follow, ignore no 4 and 5.
1- Fuel pump with non return valve
    2- accumulator
3- 2 front flexible brakes pipes
4- Suspension all round is very tired - ignore, i will source
5- Exhaust system in poor condition - ignore, i am getting a jetex system
6 - Rear wheel bearings u/s req replacement
7- Gear Selector Ball and socket kit
    8 - speedo head worn
    9 - clutch 80% worn
10 - reqs new clutch pedal stop

If you flew into heathrow, go to GSF just around the corner..http:/www.gsfcarparts.com/heathrow.html

    Tel: 020 8917 3888, 8:30 - 6:00 pm

If your collecting the parts you will need to pay VAT . I suggest get them to mail the light stuff home when you buy it, only carry any heavy items back with you on the plane.
Also dont forget you can only bring goods to the value of $900 ( think its this limit now ) per person home before paying duty on them .

    good luck bud.

    cheers,
    Grant.

GSF do ship as well, but at a massive cost, especially with the dollar as it is. I went there recently and was like a kid in a candy store...

Otherwise, check eBay UK, a lot of the guys there will say they only ship to the UK but often ive messaged them and sometimes will ship depending on the part...they are after money at the end of the day and if you are friendly, seems to work. I bought a Recaro interior (its on a boat now) for my MkII of a guy on eBay UK from here, after having a chat to him on the phone he knew i was genuine and went from there.

Everything seems to be expensive and you have to go out your way a bit but i reckon its worth it!
