Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Well so far the parts he has given me are top quality and very cheap.

Also why has Golfloon edited your post? That looks a bit odd...

I edit lots of posts, mainly for language.

There is a long list of people who have issues with Brian and who will have nothing to do with him.

He is conspicuous by his absence in the scene.

Worth remembering there are other sources, many of which have a lot more knowledge than him.

          ... back OT
Leave the orig donk mate. In 15-20 yrs time there will be so few in Australia, and less with the original plumbs in the bay. I occasionally feel a bit angsty about doin the 20vt in mine. But i'd bet if ya leave the original engine in, and keep the car for years you'll be grinning!
How many mk1 GTI's do you still see kicking? and how many of them are mint original? Have a think about what they'd be worth
You could be in that situation one day...

you can always pull the motor and put it aside so you can put in back in one day if you still have the car , but i have herd you can make the 8v nice to drive. it all depends on what you want. i would feel alot safer in a late model car with big power than a mk2. ive already considered always driving my mk2vr6 with a helmut hahaha.

Yeah I have thought this also. My biggest desire is to keep it original.

                hahaha.

Yeah I think the 8V is ok, when you wind it up.

So what are my options then on making it breathe better?

                Exhaust obviously. Induction?

Mk3 downpipe and manifold or some brand new extractors from evorobin

Then get a bigger cam and a Pommie ECU.

Sort the handling and you are set.

Enjoy it, Mk2s are great and getting rare everywhere.
