Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

        Cool vids.

        Carl, you can find some sites that will convert youtube videos. You will need the url for each of them which are;

        76 MkI 3 door swallowtail - 16v track car

            That's awesome!

I found a program called FLV Player. You can use it to play the flash movie files. Just copy the movie files out of your cache folder once they've loaded in youtube so you've got a permanent copy. Might need to add .flv to the filename. Then, open the program first and browse to the .flv file; you won't be able to double-click on the movie file to play directly.

Nice vids. Having got back in my MkII after a long MkV GTI affair, I must say the little II's handling is an absolute hoot. I was going to sell up but after driving and showing, I will live without A/C, thanks. I know the MkI is prettier, but the MkII is just so involving to drive. Even with a proper 8V engine, the grin factor is of the scale.
                  Euro look 2... Mk2 love!

I want to know what they did to the ignition..... my Euro spec 16v KR only revs to 6,800 before the rev limiter comes in.

Could only watch the last vid, which is the one I wanted to see.

One thing I'd like to know.

                      WHAT WAS THE BILL??????????

Cause I know TSR aren't cheap!!!

From my experience with the 8v with K-Jet, the rotor button has a centrifugal spring operated cutout which shorts the ignition to cutout at set revs, and the fuel pump relay seemed to have an influence over rev limiting. I once did a dodgy temporary wiring job while waiting for a fuel pump and my 8v revved happily to 7 where before it cut at 6250. Could that go part way to explaining it?

I asked the TSR and they said they modified the rev limit on this car through the ignition ECU..... Said I could ship mine over and get them to do it.

an Tim as for the cost.... According to the TSR site I assume it would have cost around 3-3500 UK Pounds.....So close to 10K AUD.

Might be getting one of their 4 branch manifolds though, 264 GBP and shipping. Unless you want to go crazy fast I think a stock 16v engine with a few tweaks, exhaust, Dual exhaust cam mod, warm up reg mod, slightly raised rev limit, should be able to get 150+bhp not quite the 185 they got out of the rebuild and fully prepped 1.9L but still a decent extra push in the back.

                              Hi Carl,
I'll be getting mine done here after the engine rebuild/mods. I am sure you could get it done locally as we have cars with distributors here too........

TSR have 3 diffrent levels to se the rpm limit too. All seem to be priced at 100quid.
I'm also getting my guy to build some really good headers so if you want some let me know and he can do 2 sets. Will be better and cheeper than UK ones. The set he did for my merc were awsome, look like an F1 car.

                              Cheers,

                              Simon
