Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • In dire need of an ADZ engine!

    Whats up guys,

After my other recent thread asking about what swaps i can do for my mk1 ive decided on the ADZ with the weber carb option! Now i need the engine and the other bits so im looking for the following:
-ADZ 1.8 from a Mk3 or similar car
    -32/36 Weber Carb
-Passat ts maifold or similar that will fit said Carb and motor combo

    Thanks for any help

    I've got one
it has a fully forged bottom end (Rods/Pistons) and a slightly bigger cam, it also has a baffled sump, but you could get a plain one to save money
The car was set up with a stand alone efi, so it has a chopper wheel fitted, which if you put a carb and distributor set up on would be superfluous but will give you future options (also have an efi manifold if you did want to go down the mega squirt route)

i also have a dcoe manifold, no carbs, but you would probably be better with the 32/36 for everyday

Complete noob when it comes to engines so I don't really understand much of what youve said haha

Will I still be able to use a 32/36 and manifold to fit with this engine or...?

Yes if you get the manifold carb and ignition

While this is just about the easiest swap you can do to a Mk1 golf it would pay for you to have someone around that has at least some mechanical knowledge, even if you do the work, at the end of the day you just need the right amount of fuel for the air and spark at the right time but if you get those bits wrong you will be pulling your hair out so it will help to have a bit of help for a first timer
