Its a tidy car and would be better if some of the chrome accesories were removed. It will be interesting to see if the son gets big dollars or not...

This golf is immaculate and is probably as original as you would find with like new original paint ect. Just need to remove some of the accessories to make it like new.
It hasnt been butchered or tampered with and whoever gets it should keep it that way.
You would have to see it in the flesh to see what I mean. Definately been garaged all its life and definately NO rust!!!
$20,000 is too much as is $1,000,000 for a XY GT Falcon. A lot of these older cars are fetching huge dollars asnd that includes bay window Kombi campers..

even if it was garaged the heater could have leaked into the floorpan. mine was garaged its whole life (one owner since new) and it still has a small amount of rust where the heater had leaked. surface rust but still rust nonetheless.

personally i think its a little bit ridiculous, yes its clean and original but id rather cough up the dough on a mk1 gti.
and comparing its possible sale price to that of the xy gt is madness!
that car is legendary for ford, much like the mk1 gti would be for us.

but now heres the best bit, we get to wait and see what it sells for! - which i am slightly excited about. getting back to the xy - it just proves that some people will pay ridiculous amounts for things.

You make a good point, Dom. A 4 door GLS automatic is certainly not the ultimate when it comes to the Mk1 Golf. It’s just a clean and tidy one owner old car in original condition……This in no way makes it highly collectable It’s certainly done nothing for me over the years apart from bore me to tears Each to their own, but I can’t see why it would generate a great deal of interest to be honest. Although, It’ll sell to someone out there

I agree with Mike. It really anything special about it. The only special thing is that it's orig and clean etc etc. It's hardly a rare model. a GTI in this condition, would be collectable, in the same sense that a standard XY Falcon is a rare find, and a nice thing, a GTHO Phase3 is another thing all together.

Hope my comparison makes sense (like it does in my head! hahaha )

Not as much fun to drive as a Mk1 GTI, but doesnt matter if you are just gonna look at it.

I like some of the whanky period options like those bumper overriders, some even had headlight squirters and the towbar. And the metal hubcaps, bet they rattle

Should be in a museum somewhere, it looks mint.

I reckon $7,500 would be a good buy. Rip all the chrome extras off it and put it away. One day it will be worth more. Its getting hard to find good original Mk1s these days. Especially for the purests out there
I am not comparing a $20,000 Golf with a $1,000,000 Falcon. Thats $980,000 difference! I am merely stating how older original vehicles are in vogue at present for some reason. Original late 70s kombi campmobiles? One of my customers put his on Ebay 2 weeks ago, needs brakes and possibly a bottom end rebuild soon. Someone from NSW flew down, checked it out and offered him $17,000 knowing that it needed work doing on it! Thats madness!!
                            Cheers

Oh, and Loon, I have some of those over riders and a windshgield somewhere!!!

                              Guys,

Checking the website, it's not for auction, is just for sale on consignment there and the asking price is $4600 so I doubt it will sell for more than that!
Obviously it's not a GTi but as some have said hard to find a car in as immaculate and original condition as this.

                              cheers
