16v Kid. I think you have upset a few people with your over enthusiasm and misinformation.

You need to practice your reading, learn things and make sure of facts before posting. OItherwise you will get shot down like this and look foolish.

Perhaps you could go 2 days and just read the forum, use the search feature and checkout the archive before posting anything further.

I've been reading & following this thread for sometime now & thought I'd chime in.

It's more of the case of crap & misleading information that get's alot of people incl. myself wound up.

OT, but it's like me stating I know this person whom I'm good buddies with, but never met him though & I can get you a brand new mk5 GTI on the road delivered to your door for $25000!

How many people are going to hassle me about this & all I can give them is an email & then they find out I've been misleading everyone with lie's & to top it off my alleged "good buddy" doesn't even know who I am! Then what happen's?

I don't know how the kid got V3's for $2500 8 month's ago, when I know for a fact, cause I've dealt with them before (I'm not friend's with them either. I've just brought stuff off them), that the increased price has been like this for longer than 8 month!

Valver's on the money to with pricing. You can't even get V2's for less than $3200 retail!

I was also shocked by this!

The DMS are on another level, but I personally found on the street the KW's to have better ride quality's with both the DMS & KW's rebound & compression wound down, even with the V3's on lower profile tyres! They just seem to soak up the bump's alot better.

On the track, I can't elaborate, but I'm pretty confident the KW's wouldn't be too far behind the DMS' by the way the valving is. Spring rates are will make a huge difference too.

Just for interest sake, I paid $2653 just over a year ago delivered to my door when the OZ dollar was flying & KW's were on special too at trade price!

If someones quoting prices for something, then put your money where your mouth is!

He's stated he can get them for $2500 delivered from his mate, so people will want a set for $2500!

Sorry for highjacking your thread K Man.

By the way. I'm still happy with my V3's & the best thing I've done with suspension on a mk1. Worth every cent even on a daily driver!

Anyone that's been in it, have been amazed by it for how little the spring rates are & hasn't had anything bad to say about the ride. Except for the lack of power! haha

I'll still stand by my previous post, of if I were to do it again for a street, I'd go with the V2's cause I like to use my car's. Hard too!
I don't mean to say what he wrote is right because no, its not. I do however think that he is a young guy who obviously doesn't know forum etiquette but its not really reason for everyone to go at him like bulls at a gate. Everyone needs to learn and the way that some people here have been treating this guy and some other members (like the guy in WA with the white mk3) is not exactly making this look like an inviting forum.

On another note I'm in the market for Coilovers and still deciding whether to gothe route of the hot tuning coilovers or some kind of low spring and shock combo.

Are there any good low spring and shock combos out there?

Not to be rude but Tim and Matt have a point, I bought my V2s back in September 07 for $1900 from Dragan the KW importer into Australia, And I think when I asked about the V3s at the time they were something like $2900

I just think that we should realise what this has come to.

In regards to the pricing of coilovers, Weitec Hicon GT's can be had for around $1500 shipped (Don't ask for a link because I am not sure where I saw that price but it was recently) which when you think about it, is around $500 more than the price of Hottunning coilovers at around $1000, I think it would be worth it to spend a little extra and have some good quality coilovers that are built by KW and have a great name and rep.

inmotive used to have them on their site for $1640ish but theyve removed the price now, im guessing due to the bad dollar + economy.

I think Koni inserts with King springs ride quite well in Mk1s. They're nicer than the Bilstein setup IMO and are similar money now (mind you, I'll check the prices at work tomorrow).

If the truth be known, good inserts ride and handle much the same as decent coilovers, but this isn't really the point of running coilovers... Obviously, they provide height adjustment (most are TUV approved for about a 70mm drop - yes, there are others that go lower, but they aren't very safe or practical at this height... hence why the H&R ultralow kits are sold w/out approval), but the other big advantage is the boost in tyre clearance due to the smaller spring perch. Coilover bodies are also stiffer, and when run within the recommended height range, the dampener won't rebound beyond the open length of the spring, which is a problem with lowered strut and spring combos.

Cam is right about the Weitec option too - basically just a KW V1 that is more cheaply finished off and uses galv rather than stainless. No one really needs the staino finish in Aus, but it just looks nice The other bonus with anything made by KW is the plastic spring perch, which can't seize onto the coilover body, which is the case with pretty much every other brand.

I've just bought some of the GAZ Golds for my Mk1, which will hopefully rock up in a few weeks. I chose to import them as local prices were too high, but they're meant to be decent thing. They also let you choose your own spring rates, which you can't do with anything except the KW 2 and 3-way race kits, which are madly expensive - $7,400k landed with progressive rate springs for 3-ways through VW Motorsport

I found the rear to be a bit soft with my old V2s, but at least with the V3 you can bump up the compression dampening - the 2 doesn't have this option!

The new AP coilovers from Germany are very cheap and meant to ride very well. I know nothing about them, but maybe something else to consider. They're a great price through VenomMotorsport in the UK

ive got adj koni coils with king springs, an theyre alright i guess,
but the best mk1 (suspension-wise) that i have had the pleasure of driving was on a track and running real nice shockers (bilsteins i think?) and very firm springs with some heavy duty sway bar action - made what im runnin feel like a dinghy in a hurricane.
being able to adjust the car up n down is good and all, but i would trade a little less attractive ride height to have it handle like a weapon.

Sorry guys, as of mid december Hicon GT's are nearly $1900 & hicon TX $2400. I got these prices as a quote from an Australian imoporter or weitec & KW.

Hottuning still win for value for money, for lowering, imo. less than $900 delivered!

So I have Koni inserts and Eibach springs in my MK1, but want to go a little lower. How much are new springs that are lower, or would I be better to get the current ones reset 25mm shorter?

I am not looking to spend the $700 for coils.
