Quick question(s) about coilovers

No, they're not anymore... I just roughly quoted someone for some, and found the prices had soared since our last order!!!

Great product, and they are still worth the money (just), but they are pushing into the DMS/Leda/Hot Bits etc price bracket, and they aren't in the same league as any of these.

The Mk1 set retails at over $3,700 now - a few hundred more and you have DMS 50mm w/out springs!

Holy crap! stupid dollar! In that case i may look into buying DMS dampers when i'm ready. Are the DMS dampers bump/rebound adjustable?

U dont get the point kid, not many ppl will spend more than 50% of their cars value on suspension. Regardless of the price u can get KWs, that price alone is prob more than what some cars are worth on here...

Peedman, you are correct, why would you spend such money on a 30 yo cars suspension. Its crazy and only for the rich, and then its usually wasted driving round the roads. You can mix brands and make a decent handling Golf.

With all due respect, Andrew (which, from me to you, is a reasonable amount) must you always slip in these 'covert' comments about bigger budget cars? No one on this forum is 'rich' by any measure, and if they were, they would hardly populate a Volkswagen forum!!

Nothing is 'wasted' in a road car if it's used and enjoyed. I know for sure that having actually owned a 'rich' suspension setup, it sure as hell rode a lot nicer than the cheaper brands (the majority of which I've tried) and was worth every cent. I've spent even more on my next round and I'm sure the benefits will be there once again.

I am not rich by any measure (and nor is the other person we locals all know such comments are directed at...), but stand by spending money on the best stuff.

Yes, one can mix and match things and obtain a 'decent handling Golf', but what's wrong with buying the best and creating an exceptional handling Golf instead?

I know which one I'd prefer Sure, not everyone has money to spend on a crappy old car - they probably spend it on other things - but it's not fair to damn those who do (and on numerous occasions).

You get what you pay for. If I were going to mix and match parts, I certainly wouldn't be going for cheapo coilovers when basic old Konis with king springs are still available for not much more.

If you want people to look at you mk1 and go WOW know thats something you dont see every day you have to spend money. e.g valvers mk1 turbo. i would have to say thats probs the best mk1 iv ever seen with my eyes

Back on topic... Yeah, isn't it crazy?!! To do anything to these cars now is just crazily expensive.

I've given KWs the 'big-up' everywhere up until recently, but the price bracket they're in now is putting them in line with some big stuff!

I also got a price on the new H&R TwinTube inoxlines for a Mk1 and they're $3,995 RRP It's not the fault of our distributors (who I feel sorry for as they're going to lose sales), but it still sucks @ss.

Yes, DMS have the works in terms of adjustment. They're pretty much indescribable in the ride and handling department

as for coils. I've driven (or rode in} a few cars with hottunnings. I don't mind them.
as purely astetic mod (ie lowering] I think they fit the bill, and provide a decent, ride, although pretty rough over bumps at times.

Carl has DMS in his mk 2. that things low, stiff and still rides good.

But for the price difference I could live with the hottunnings, even though more uncomfortable. the price justfy's that, in respect to Andrews comments about old cars, & expensive suspension etc.
