  • Custom made Parcel Shelf Support

I have got a very good condition Mk1 parcel shelf and 2 support bracket from Loon a while ago. Now I eventually come to the stage to fit them into my Mk1 project.

The support bracket are from later model, they won't fit straight into my 76 Mk1, but after some minor cutting/trimming, they sit perfectly

Fitting the parcel shelf is a bit of problem, unlike later model (Mk2/3/4), the shelf doesn't have the end bar to sit on bracket as pivot. I searched many UK website they all describe the shelf is supposed to be fixed at the back seat with a metal bar and use the carpet as a hinge. Probably UK Mk1 models doesn't have fold down back seat, I don't know how it'll work in aussie Mk1. So I decide to custom make something difference. And I found this Ikea laundry basket in my garage

Quickly wreck it and cut its leg

With some silicon, the parcel shelf has a support bar

Mark the position in the support bracket

    and cut it

Perfect Parcel Shelf fitting (except colour)

Next step to do : Get some black paint to spray the support bracket and dye the carpet black

good idea! i hate my mk1 parcel shelf, being flakey as they usually are, i just took it out and forgot about it.

i did have a nice wooden one that my dad and I made, but it doesnt suit my white LS - looked the goods in my old blue GLD though - it belongs to my sister now
