Welcome to the forum, jhopk ... looks to be a tidy buy ... and a good base model for a project car.

Thanks for the comments guys... think i will be keeping it original for the time being. It really only needs a couple of things done to almost perfect condition.

If you have any ideas where the best pace to get spare parts in Melbourne or online that would be great.

man, that is clean! you have to understand, alot of us will have never seen and origional examplet that clean! It's very Impressive.

As for spare parts in melbourne, where abouts are you located? Volkspower in burwood are pricey, but generally have everything that you'd be after ( the smaller things atleast) and there are a few other work shops situated around the city that many people on here will recommend. Matt (golf loon) is pretty much the be all and end all in terms of parts, if he doesn't have it, or can't get it, it musn't exsist!

Beautiful car. Love the mud flaps. The dash looks to be largely uncracked.

And I agree keep it stock - gotta love that '70s styling.

How much you reckon to convert it to a manual? i prefer man but probably should keep this car completely original.

So original.......IMHO it would be desecration to convert it.

                      Cheers

have you ever driven a mk 1 auto (stock)? I'm pretty sure there is good reason to change it if you know what i mean.

Besides, it can all be done to look factory anyways, and use all factory setup. so it's wouldn't be modifying it in a sense.

                        as for the conversion it'self.

Need the new box of course, manual linkage setup, manual "pedal box" which hangs off the steering column, which I think get's changed. all in all, it's a fairly complex, but probably worth it, esp if you are handy with a spanner.

alex, (intesnsm1) had an auto mk 1, that he was going to convert, so he might know a bit more..?

Will let you know how i go but it seems to drive OK (except when i test drove it, it ran out of fuel lol) and it definitely wont be a daily driver anyway

Will be driving it back from Geelong to Melbourne on Saturday so that will give me a better idea. Besides it only cost me $1000 so probably keep it as is for now.

                            Cheers guys
