  • URGENT: 1.8 8v alternator needed!

So my car stalled, twice, and by then the battery was flat. preeeettttty sure I need a new alternator -.-

Any advice on how to be certain of this? I'm quite confident that the alternator is bust, but maybe I can breath new life in to it!

Otherwise, anyone got one/where could I get my hands on one?

    try an autoelectrician.

there are a few simple things you can do to test if its charging or not. do a search you will find heaps of info on the web about it.

Get a multimeter and see how much voltage it is putting out. Should be well over 12v (14v is optimal)

If it is the alternator, try replacing the regulator first

I have a 1.8 8v alternator - it came off a car with A/C - not sure if it'll be okay on a car without A/C - i'll let the other chime it. Works fine though, needs a new belt that's all.

might try just giving RACV a ring and letting them test it, I don't imagine that I'll have to do this regularly and I don't own a multimeter.

thanks for the heads up though guys, again if anyone has one I will probably be looking to grab it.

          Cheers.

@NightPhotographer - Cheers mate, if it works with a non a/c motor then just pm me a price. I'll check the life of mine/local area first and let you know if I need it.

turns out that the idle was so low that I was slowly murdering my battery with my stereo -.-

                live and learn...

                  Cheers.
You own a Mk1 but don't own a multimeter, come on it's only $25, you'll find it's the best tool in your garage.

for the record, the mk1 cabby uses the mk2 alternator, like a lot of other parts!

Looks like its time to bump up the amps on it. This is if your running a amped up stereo?
