ok ive got a mk3, but im looking for something a bit older thats gonna be a bit of fun to rip around in.
    i found this on carsales

what do any of you's think? would it be worth it? what questions should i ask the guy?
i might be going to see him early this week.

i havnt had much experiance with mk1's so are there any better versions that i should be lookin out for or anything (enginewise or other?)

    thanks muchly,

Thats not a GTI, as its a carby and 5 door.

You wont find a real GTI, as they were never sold here. Good ones are now fetching good bread.

Why would you go from the comfort of a Mk3 with AC and Power Steer to and unconfortable noisy old Mk1?

Although nostalgia steers me to the older i tend to agree with Loon, heaps more comfort and you make a Mk3 look the goods.

Bah being old and sensible is no fun!

Mk1s are great. Ive spent a lot of money making my mk3 noisy and uncomfortable!

I think your biggest concern with a mk1 is going to be rust. Do some research on all the usual spots.

Perhaps a mk2 GTI would be a compromise? Not quite as old and rusty.

Ha Ha. I spent that much time in mk1's I couldn't wait to get out of one.

Now I can't wait to get back in. I think it's the fuel smell & crankcase fume's that keep dragging me back.

you all make a good point....

i must say i did realise today when i looked again, that it wasnt actually a gti.

i think this is just a subconscious grab at more power (looking for a GTI i can afford that is) because im so damn sick of having like NO kW in my 2.slow and it being such a pain to order stuff over the internet form overseas.

think ill still go look at it but the guy called me today and asked me if i was planning to restore it or what and to make sure i knew that for a 1000 bucks i wouldnt be gettin much other than a car that runs and thats about it.

            oh well. we shall see.

            thank you all much.
