  • Another 16v on the way

So I bought this 1984 pommie import golf with a blown GTI engine in it.

Too good to wreck and when I took the engine out, I noiced that it has the 16v type downpipe, that exactly matches up with the manifold on a 16v kr engine.

That gave me an idea, so i acted on it

Jeez these things are a tight fit, but its good practice for my Green machine, that is getting the rebuilt engine in it in a week or so. Itd be heaps easier if Id left off the ancillery belt and pulley.

Just need to match up the wiring and swop the airbox over to the other side and hopefully should be making noises.

    I`ll keep you posted

Had a nice 83 Golf Driver myself which was Aussie registered as an 84.
That was the first 16v project.Put a 9a with only 11000 ks in it.
              Went really hard (secret tweeks)
              Yours a 2 or 4 door Loon.

4 door. You can have it for $5k golfman with all the booty in it. GTI seats and cabrio dash, even oil pressure gauge and of course 16v motor and 5 speed.

                    Update

So its running, without vacuum advance at the moment, but have been round the block a few times and it is quick. The first journey was hindered by only having put one of the bolts back in the strut tower  That led to a wibbly wobbly moment at the top of 3rd gear. Returned home to tighten bolts and change my pants and had another go.

Came back grinning from ear to ear. It did a huuge burnout on the hill and you can spin the wheels in second easily and even in third a bit
This is one of the more tired engines from my Garage, witout the vacuum advance hooked up! Imagine what one of the strong motors is gonna be like running properly. Weeeeeeeeeee

Gives me renewed hope for my Green Machine.

Gonna move the brake fluid bottle (I bought the hose unions today) and fit a saab dissy next. then a tidy up and the car should be ready for rego.

Yeah got the Ibiza that used to be a 1.4 changed legally today. Now it says 1.8 and the correct engine number on the papers. Wahoo Legality for the mutant.

Now just an easy pink slip for this 16v and thats the fleet done
