same here buddy - mate if you want a mk1 that bad you're going to have to put in some sort of effort, whether its taking some time off to get one from outside melbourne or even looking online on ebay, gumtree etc as george said. just sitting at home and posting a thread waiting for someone to contact you about it is not how you buy a car... let alone find a mk1

My advice is to drive around Melbourne area and look for one (you don’t have a car though…maybe my idea is not that good after all) Look in driveways/fronte yards etc and if you find one ask if it is for sale.
My old mk1 was found sitting at the end of a driveway about 30kms east of my home (and yes I do understand melb is slightly larger than hob!). It belonged to someone who didn’t want it and thought no one else would want it either. Picked it up for $400! A little old grandma probably wouldnt know how to advertise her mk1 on ebay/gumtree and would leave it sitting in her yard.

I do what er_12 said everytime i go to the market! I saw an old couple drive by in a banged up mk3 vento, then i saw a vr6 badge!!! Annnd then it was gone! I need to find it and pop the bonnet!

You won't get better value than Lima's GTI. You couldn't build a replica for that price, though can't vouch for its authenticity.
