Does anyone have a fix for the slow wiper speed? I don't remember them being so slow back when the cars were new, so wondering whether its dry bushes or similar in the motor or linkages.

The most common solution is to upgrade it to Mk2 or Mk3 wiper moter. I've seen a good thread in US forum on how to do it, but I can't find it nowsigpicParts for sale http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...ff-102387.html

The Mk3 or SEAT motors work well.
They use the same spindle size and bolt pattern so they fit exactly onto your Mk1 mechanism.
You may need a couple of inches of wire and the connector plug from the donor car too
There is a thread on here somewhere about repairing a track on the back of the fusebox which makes things like the wipers work properly on a Mk1 too. They are terrible fuseboxes.sigpic Camden GTI Performance. VW / AUDI Specialists
