  • 82 GTI...With Pics

    Hi,
Here is my GTI, just going through the process of importing this car. My uncle has had it for 23 years! The car has never had a restoration but i know was in 1 crash in my uncles times. This was repaired along with a couple of mods. The passenger door got a wing mirror and the areial was moved to the centre of the roof!
Any way, Cannot wait to have this land in melbourne.
Hope you like and enjoy the pics.

Going to have the little patches of rust removed and a full machine polish.
Just out of interest how many genuine MK1 GTI's are in australia? I know of 1 other and thats black.
And if anyone who reads this has gone through the import process them selfs please PM or reply with some info, that would be awesome as iv done the search on the forum and would just like personal opinion/experience.

              hows the rust??

              There isn't much at all,

The story goes, my uncle as a young early 20s put it away in storage as the engine was burning oil. when he dragged it out years and years later it had it inspected.
If the car had rusted and rotted he was just going to scrap it...but lucky for me it was solid.
The engine has been fixed and he drove it for a couple of summers and then put it away again. Everything on the car is the original, the interior, the wheels, everything just needed cleaning.

as for getting here as soon as i pay for the shipping, im applying for import approval tomorrow after I make a call but im so nervous of the paper work and doing it right.

So any help will be awesome

I had a red 1600 GTI in Adelaide. I sold it to a non-forum guy and I don't think it's been seen since......

Not struck with the beesting on the front of the roof, otherwise looks like a solid car.

Car looks great. Worth bringing into the country.

No doubt there will be something to spend to get it registered here - worth doing though.

that interior looks very nice! seats are a treat
But no really, I like to look distinguished when I step out of the car. People are like, "wonder what he does for living."
I just reply, "your daughter, sir." - some dude on stanceworks

I had fixed half the broken crap but that just meant it was still halfway inoperable

That thing is a beast get it over its so worth who cars how much it costs to rego it....im going through the ropes now to get a left hand drive import registered and it dosnt seem too bad a few hurdles but so worth it....first thing you gotta do is VSCCS which stands for vehicle safety compliance certification scheme....thats nsw not sure bout vic though might be a totally different process which stupid...

I'd be interested to know the answer to that one as well.

I've got an '81 GTi which seems to enjoy long periods of resting up between short sharp blasts around the south-east of Melbourne...
There is no Golf in my life. This is unacceptable...
