  • Where are you guys buying your Mk1 parts?

    Hey Guys,

I recently got myself a Mk1, and I need to buy a bunch of parts to get it up to scratch. Where are you mainly buying your parts from?

Do you just head into your local parts supplier like supercheap/auto one etc? Or do you buy from Europe/UK? Ebay UK?

    I need the following just for reference;

    - Timing kit (Diesel)
    - Rack ends
    - Rear wheel bearings
    - Door handles / locks etc
    - Headlight switch
    - Wiper stalk / blinker stalk

    Any feedback appreciated.

    Thanks

I usually go straight to eBay

    MK1 Autohaus are great
Mk1 Autohaus items - Get great deals on Body Exterior Trim, Engine Mechanical items on eBay Stores!

    and so are veedubmachine
veedubmachine items - Get great deals on Badge, AUDI items on eBay Stores!

From what I have heard, Werk34 are good WERK34 | Volkswarenhaus Heussner Stauber | WERK 34 but I have never bought from them...

If you are in Melbourne, I am wanting to do a veedubmachine order in the next few weeks and can combine items to bring down freight.

I have spent a small fortune with veedubmachine, they are awesome to deal with so I'm ok with it!

          Thanks guys! All good feedback.

Once I get the full list from my mate who is a mechanic doing the health check on my mk1, I'm going to pay a quick visit to a local vw place called Tooley Imports that have been around for ever (Audi / Volkswagen - Volkswagen Tooley Imports)

If they can't help or are to pricey ebay it is! I usually just use ebay for ease of getting stuff as I don't have a lot of time to make calls and stuff around, but since these guys are local I'll make the effort.

Sorry dubstar I'm in sydney mate otherwise I would be keen to combine any purchases.

also check out ECStuning and GAP in the U S of A, they're both pretty good.

I don't bother going to local stores, but they are able to get alot of parts (not always OEM though)

Your local friendly Volkswagen specialist mechanic should also be able to get you alot of the parts, if they don't have them in stock.

hey mate, locally you will e very fortunate to find much new mk1 gear. I buy most of my stuff from busdepot and vw heritage mate for the best mk1 gear. Postage is a big hit but is one of the only places you'll get new mk1 gear and lots of it.

Ended up buying 90% of my gear from veedubmachine, they were really good to deal with so I can recommend them to anyone.

Only part I need now is a replacement radiator. The part code i have is 171121253D (480x322mm core, remote fill).

Has anyone had to buy one of these in Australia? Any recommendations? Auto one weren't able to help, the only other option is repairing the current one, but I reckon it's probably a throw away item due to cost of labour.

                Any input?

Ive bought from both mk1 Autohaus and Werk34 and both had good parts, postage is the killer on this side of the planet.

Mate i'd give upgrading the rad a shot - many other golfs (mk2,mk3) ran similar setups and would be infinitely better than anything you'd find for a mk1 in aus. at most you'd need new hoses but you should do that anyway!

if not hit up ebay for alloy rads! can be had for like 200 ish plus postage from the states

Post a price or details in the thread, happy to consider a local sale if it's semi competitive.

For anyone that needs a standard replacement radiator for a 1.5l diesel, I ended up ordering through these guys

98 pounds delivered, which is around $168 AUD at the current exchange.

Would be aluminum with plastic end tanks. Do mk1's even get a copper radiator from factory?

I did try and go through a friend who works at vw, and volkswagen don't make them anymore just as an fyi.
